Neighbourhood Watch: Delivery Fraud

Had an unexpected delivery that you’ve signed for? It could be a fraud…

If you receive delivery of a mobile phone or high value product that you did not order, then please call Herfordshire Police on 101 so they can recover it and investigate further. If a stranger then knocks to pick it up, please tell them that the Police have it and again let the Police know about this.

The Scam

A phone or high value item is purchased to your address. This is then delivered to your address by courier. You don’t know what it is and sign for it anyway. You open the package and think it was sent by mistake. The fraudsters then get in contact either by phone or a knock on your door to collect the item, either posing as couriers or saying it went to your address by mistake. You hand the goods over, but unfortunately there is a sting in the tail. As you signed for delivery, and it was received at your address, you may be left with a rather large bill.

Police Contact Advice

Telephone 999 in an emergency where there is a danger to life or a crime is in progress. Telephone 101 for non-emergencies where police attendance is required, to report a crime or to report any other incidents. Calls to 101 have a fixed cost of 15p per call. Alternatively, visit www.herts.police.uk/contact to report a non-emergency crime online or chat to a police operator live via our web chat service. If you are calling about the above, please tell us that you are responding to a message from OWL Neighbourhood Watch.
