Neighbourhood Watch: Fake contractors trying to obtain access to properties

On Friday 8th February in Gilders, a resident had a male knock on the door purporting to be from Anglia Water, needing to gain entry to the property to turn off the water meter. The male had no ID on him and said he didn’t have any as he was a contractor. Any person claiming to be from a company such as Anglia Water will have ID on them – whether they are contractors or not.

The male was not allowed access to the property and left in a white van with another male inside.

Please do not let anyone into your property if they do not show you ID. If they do have ID, check it. Take it from them and ring the company to ask if the person works for them. Any legitimate trades person will not mind their ID being checked.
